Prescribing Policy

This policy explains how medicines are prescribed at NUPHASE, the clinical safeguards in place, and your responsibilities as a patient.

Our prescribing principles

  • We prescribe only where a GMC-registered clinician judges treatment to be clinically appropriate and safe for you, based on your blood results, history and symptoms.
  • We follow relevant professional guidance, including GMC good practice for remote prescribing and applicable specialist guidance for hormone therapy.
  • We do not prescribe on demand. A request for a specific treatment does not guarantee it will be prescribed.

How a prescribing decision is made

  • You complete a health questionnaire and a blood test.
  • A clinician reviews your results, history and symptoms.
  • Where appropriate, the clinician consults with you before prescribing.
  • A prescription is issued only after this assessment, and is compounded / dispensed by our registered pharmacy partner.
  • Your treatment is monitored, with repeat testing and review, and may be adjusted or stopped on clinical grounds.

When we will not prescribe

We will not prescribe where it would be unsafe or inappropriate, including where you have a relevant contraindication, where information is incomplete or inconsistent, or where treatment is better managed by another service. In some cases we will refer you back to your GP or to specialist care.

Controlled and high-risk medicines

Certain treatments carry additional monitoring and safety requirements. Where these apply, your clinician will explain them and additional checks may be required before and during treatment.

To confirm

State how testosterone (a controlled drug in the UK) is handled: supply, monitoring, record-keeping. This must be accurate and is clinically / legally specific.

Your GP

We strongly encourage you to keep your GP informed of any treatment you receive with us, and with your consent we can share relevant information with them. Joined-up care is safer care.

Monitoring and ongoing safety

  • Repeat blood testing at clinically appropriate intervals.
  • Review of symptoms, markers and side effects.
  • Dose adjustment or discontinuation where clinically indicated.

Pharmacovigilance

If you experience a side effect you can tell your clinical team, and suspected adverse drug reactions can be reported to the MHRA Yellow Card scheme (yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk).

Regulatory status

NUPHASE is registered with the Care Quality Commission [registration number]. Prescribing clinicians are registered with the GMC. Dispensing is carried out by a pharmacy registered with the GPhC [registration number].
